‘Il Castagno’ Residence is located just minutes from Pistoia, the northernmost of the Tuscan cities. Pistoia is located at the foot of the Apennines and its territory is bordered by the Brana and Ombrone rivers. The city, a major industrial and commercial centre, is strongly connected to the rich Florentine metropolitan area, gravitating in its orbit, only differentiating itself by means of its unique plant nurseries. A Roman city, mentioned by sources from the beginning of the first century B.C., its role was consolidated as the starting point for a trans-Apennine road network..
A few kilometres from Pistoia we find the ‘pearls’ of Tuscany Florence, Siena, Pisa and Lucca, all reachable in less than an hour’s drive, they boast a cultural heritage of the highest level. Also, a few kilometres from Pistoia we find Versilia with its charm and beaches equipped with all the modern comforts.

The main collection is represented by the Civic Museum, but are also important the Diocesan Museum, theMuseum of Palazzo Rospigliosi and for contemporary art, the Museo Marino Marini, Palazzo Fabroni, the Casa Studio of Fernando Melani and outside the city, in the countryside of Arcigliano, the Fondazione Pistoiese Jorio Vivarelli
IL CASTAGNO DI PITECCIO
‘Il Castagno’ Residence is located at Castagno di Piteccio, an ancient village located 500 metres above sea level on a ridge of the Ombrone River valley, famous for its salubrious climate and tranquillity. The cobbled streets passable only on foot, the church dating from the start of the last millennium, and the nineteenth-century fountain make this stop unmissable and unique. Works by artists such as Bueno, Vivarelli, Maccari, Martini and Vaccai, will delight your walk through the streets of this pretty village transformed in the 1970’s into a veritable open-air museum.
There is a fresco in the small village church by the school of Giotto, which came to light during recent renovations. The village is surrounded by the greenery of chestnut trees (hence the name) and you can walk along the ancient paths which are very interesting in terms of landscape and nature, along with ancient fresh water springs.
